Background

Yew Chung International School was founded in 1932 by Madam Tsang Chor-hang, who established it as Hong Kong's first homegrown international school. Nearly a century on, it is one of the city's most established bilingual schools. The school follows a curriculum based on the National Curriculum for England, Cambridge IGCSE, and the IB Diploma Programme. It also teaches Chinese language and culture as a dedicated strand alongside this academic pathway.

Students graduate with a strong grounding in the local context and qualifications recognised for university entry worldwide. YCIS operates more than its three core Kowloon Tong sites: it also runs an early years campus in Tseung Kwan O and a tertiary college in Aberdeen. The school runs free shuttle buses between its Kowloon Tong campuses and Tseung Kwan O during school hours.

A school bus service is optional for the Early Childhood Education and Secondary sections. New Primary students must use the school bus under a scheme introduced to ease local traffic congestion, although the school grants exemptions on a case-by-case basis. For lunch, families can either send food from home or subscribe to the school's on-campus catering service. YCIS accepts applications throughout the year through an online-only system. Since space is limited, families are encouraged to apply early; successful applicants who cannot be placed immediately join a waiting pool.
