Background

Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) was founded in 1991 and marked its 35th anniversary in the 2025/2026 school year. Despite a student population of more than 2,100 pupils from over 40 nationalities, the school maintains a class size of 24 or fewer across all grade levels. In 2024, CDNIS also opened an Early Years Centre at THE SOUTHSIDE in Wong Chuk Hang. CDNIS operates a bilingual English and Mandarin programme there and now admits children from Nursery age two.

CDNIS is one of only eight schools in Hong Kong authorised to teach all three levels of the International Baccalaureate: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). Students start earning credits toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) from Grade 9, and by graduation, they hold both the IB Diploma and the OSSD. To earn the OSSD, students must complete 30 credits and 40 hours of community service and pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. CDNIS is regularly cited as the only school in Hong Kong where students earn both diplomas simultaneously.

CDNIS provides Upper School students (Grades 6 to 12) with more than 70 extracurricular activities across sports, performing arts, visual arts, and clubs. Students can join the school's Timberwolves sports teams from Grade 4. The Lower School runs its own smaller programme of after-school activities for younger children. Upper School students are also organised into four intramural houses that compete in spirit events throughout the year.
