Background

The American International School (AIS) of Hong Kong was founded in 1986 as the California International School, and it took on its current name in 1996. AIS now has four decades of history behind it, and it aims to develop children into global citizens. Students at the school come from more than 30 nationalities.

AIS runs a rigorous academic programme and rounds it out with extracurricular activities that range from sports and leadership training to cultural and community initiatives. The school is also one of the few in Hong Kong to offer the full Advanced Placement programme, including the AP Capstone Diploma. Classes are small, and the teacher-student ratio is 1:15. Children get individual attention as a result.

Students at AIS also have access to a school bus service and a hot lunch programme. They pay for meals using cashless, stored-value ID cards. AIS accepts applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, and entrance assessments for Grades 1 to 12 are typically held between February and June.
